Maly Wawel @ Sucha Beskidzka

On Sunday We visited a great tlittle 500 year old castle and had a picnic on the lawns!
It was so pretty!
Called "Little Wawel" as it resembles the Large Krakow Wawel castle. the day was beutiful and sunny...a too regular occurance for the local Climate...must have brought the drought here with me. Kwiecien (April) has been t
he driest in Poland for 50 years and they have banned all homo sapiens form the forest areas around Warsaw for this long May weekend....feels very much like Auz! They have had ore forest fires already this year (mid to late spring ) than all of last year! Shudda taken my green DSE fire uniform an a few matches and done some fule reduction burns as soon as I arrived!

Anyway the picnic was great after a walk to the top of the hill where we found an old chapel built in honour of the dead soldiers who fought the Ruskis (we won this one and defended motherland) .......
On the way back the turbo packed up......z car just took off....z cops just gazed @ ze car and the smoke out of z exhaust, i had to throw it out of gear.... else 200km/h would have been achieved involutarily......... (great German engeneering let us down ..... wat is going on in Volkswagen? surley zey r not employing Ruskis?) So now we r driving the TAXI - An old Polish Polonez that seems to be dragging the exhaust system and slowing us down....public transport is even better as we have discovered recently.... catch a minibus to anywhere, but don't expect AC or quick passage even thogh the local drivers do a great job!

Till next time.....

Lanckorona

This is my second attempt at this delayed post as the Polish Laptop hung a couple of days ago! Probably does not like a new user who spells in English! So far the time has flown for us ...two weeks already! yesterday we wer ein Krakow but I need to catch up with Posts.

Last week we took a guided walk by our friends through a local FOrest Park via an Communist style retreat and visited the medival town of Lanckorona. The town that was given City status in 13th Century and Kaz the Great, who built a castle on top of the hill, (now ruins). The Town was as large as Krakow in the middle ages and was a merchant route. It is now famous for it's 200 - 300 year old wooden houses. The town is now popular with yuppies ala Maldon in Auz. Many of the old houses are being renovated. There is a great gallery there! The local church is in great nick.Anna's mums father was born and lived in one of the houses. (see pic) .... Great walk & sights.

Feel free to click on any of the pics for enlargements.
